“Running Up That Hill” reaching No. 1 in the UK broke three chart records.

For starters, it broke the record for the longest time taken for a single to reach No. 1 as it hit the top spot 37 years after its release. According to the Mirror, the previous record-holder was Wham with their song “Last Christmas,” which reached No. 1 in 2021, 36 years after its release.

The second record was the longest gap between No. 1 singles. Bush’s last No. 1 was her debut single, “Wuthering Heights,” which came out 44 years ago.

Finally, Bush, who is 63 years old, is now the oldest female artist to score a No. 1 hit. The previous record was held by Cher, who was 52 years old when “Believe” reached the top of the charts in 1998.

Cher congratulated Bush on Twitter for overtaking her.

“Bravo Kate. Records are meant 2 be broken,” Cher wrote. “Remember back in the day when women had short sell by dates. We had 2 fight our way through the Testosterone curtain & we did it so the girls who came after us could sing as long as they want to.”
